Finding a nice place to eat and dance is never easy, but luckily Panama has a number of places you can definitely enjoy. If you’re visiting the country for the first time, you might want to try the local music and food in one single place, Al Tambor de la Alegria offers all that and more. Located in the heart of Amador, Flamenco Island, you’ll find the restaurant facing the parking lot towards the ocean, it’s very easy to find. If you want to enjoy the main dancing event, I suggest you head on over there 4 PM.

The show starts off with some Panamanian dances and shows while you enjoy the best of Panama’s dishes. Some of the Panamanian dance you’ll be enjoying are the “El Punto”, and the “Tamborito”, which is a popular folk dance performed by men and women in costumes. One of the most popular shows at the Al Tambor de la Alegria would be the Congo dance, popular among the black communities and loved by all. It originated in Colon and has since been a show many tourists can’t miss.

At the end of the night visitors of the restaurant are invited to dance along with the performers after finishing their dinner. Feel free to ask one of the waiters for a CD filled with Panamanian folk music, that shouldn’t cost you more than 10 USD. Don’t worry about not having much dancing skills or even knowing anything about the dances performed, all you need to do is follow along with the performers and you’ll do fine.

Al Tambor de la Alegria is a great place to bring the entire family for some fun dancing and great food. You shouldn’t have trouble finding the place if you know where the Causeway is, so go get your dance on and enjoy the food.
